Who owns the Averitt Center for the Arts/ Emma Kelly Theater?
The City of Statesboro owns the two buildings that house The Averitt Center for the Arts and the Emma Kelly Theater and lease them to The Averitt Center Board of Directors.
Who makes up The Averitt Center Board of Directors?
The Averitt Center Board consists of a variety of area business professionals and arts enthusiasts that volunteer their, support, and expertise for the organization as a whole.
When did The Averitt Center for the Arts open?
On September 9, 2004 after extensive remodeling, The Averitt Center for the Arts and the Emma Kelly Theater opened their doors to the public.
How many seats does the Theater have?
The Emma Kelly Theater has 359 seats including balcony seating.
Does the Theater show movies?
While the Emma Kelly Theater has occasionally shown movies in the past, its primary use and focus is as a live event venue.

Where is your box office located?
Our box office is located within the Rosengart Gallery at 33 East Main Street, Statesboro, 30458. Go into the big red doors framed by a historic arch transom and columns at the corner of East Main and Siebald streets.
I bought a ticket to an event at the Emma Kelly Theater – where is the Emma Kelly Theater?
The entrance to the Emma Kelly Theater, the Averitt Center’s beautiful historic performance venue, can be found under the marquee at 35 East Main Street.
Can I buy tickets in person or over the phone?
Absolutely! Our friendly box office personnel will be happy to assist you Monday through Friday from 9am to 5pm in person or over the phone at 912-212-2787.

Do you offer any discounts?
We offer a 10% discount to First Responders, City/County employees, veterans and Averitt Center members for performances sponsored by the Averitt Center. Performances sponsored by third parties do not qualify for these discounts. To ensure these discounts are offered for the performance you’re interested in, please call the box office. Purchase must be made in person or over the phone to take advantage of the reduced ticket price. For more information on membership, go to this link.
Are tickets for reserved seats or general admission?
All tickets are for assigned seats, so consider purchasing your tickets well in advance to make sure you and your companions get the seats you want together!
Can I reserve a seat without paying?
To ensure fair access to in-demand seats, we do not allow tickets to be reserved without payment.
Do I need to bring a hard copy of my tickets to get into the show? What if I don't have a printer?
You do not need hard copies of your tickets to attend the show. We can scan your tickets from the email confirmation you received at the time of purchase, but if you prefer a hard copy, please see our box office attendant.
Can I buy my tickets on the day of the show?
Yes! For Saturday and Sunday matinees, our box office opens 90 minutes in advance of the performance’s start time. For weekday night shows, tickets can be purchased from 9am when we open until 30 minutes after the show’s start.
What if I lost my tickets/email confirmation?
Please see the box office attendant. They can look up your order and resend the email and/or print new copies for you.
When do theater doors open for the performance?
The house will open 30 minutes before the start of the show. If you arrive earlier than that, please come in through the Rosengart Gallery door where our box office is located to find some limited bench seating on which you can wait for the theater to open.
Can I bring my own snacks/drinks?
We do not allow outside food and beverage, but please check out our concessions counter for Coca-Cola products, coffee, water and Statesboro-local staple: Corks popcorn!
I plan to attend a show in a wheelchair or with other mobility assistance equipment. Is there seating just for me, and will there be room to store this equipment?
The Emma Kelly Theater has wheelchair-specific seats and room to store walkers and rollators. Flag down an usher if you need any help, and they will gladly assist you to ensure your comfort and ease of access.
I have a young child I want to bring with me to the show – can they get in for free?
Children who can sit in a parent/guardian’s lap may attend the performance for free, but must remain in a lap at all times.
Education
How early can my children be enrolled in your classes?
As long as your child is potty-trained, we have offerings available. Children as young as 3 years of age may be registered for Pre-Ballet, while our visual arts offerings begin at age 5. Theater offerings vary each year, and private lessons are on a case-by-case basis determined by the individual instructor.
When can I begin classes at the Averitt Center?
Our full length, eight-week-long classes operate on a Session system which follows the Bulloch County public school calendar. For Fall ’25 through Spring ’26, sessions are as follows:
Session 1: August 11 – October 3, 2025
Session 2: October 6 – December 12, 2025
Session 3: January 12 – March 6, 2026
Session 4: March 16 – May 15, 2026
Please see “If we start late…” below if you have missed the beginning of a class and still want to enroll. Classes typically do not meet on days Bulloch County schools are scheduled to be closed. For closures due to inclement weather, please confirm by contacting the Box Office at 912-212-2787.
Is there paperwork involved before I take classes?
Yes. Parents/guardians of minor children AND adult students must fill out and sign our Contact Info/Waivers form before attending class. For dance classes, this form will be sent to you via the Brightwheel app. For all other offerings, this form will be sent to the email address used to purchase the class.
Are all classes held at the main Averitt Center building at 33 East Main Street?
No – in fact, all visual arts classes are held at 31 East Vine St. at the Roxie Remley Center for Fine Arts. Theater and dance classes are most often held at 41 West Main St. at the Whitaker Black Box Theater building or 5 North Main St. at the Cotton Rose School of Dance’s Petit Dance Studio. The location of your class can be found in the confirmation email from your purchase, the Averitt Center for the Arts website under “Education” or by calling or stopping by the front desk at 33 East Main Street in downtown Statesboro, 912-212-2787.
If we start late, will the class be discounted?
Late registration depends upon instructor approval. If the class’s instructor accepts a late student, they will contact us to prorate your tuition. Please contact the Box Office at 912-212-2787 to inquire about signing up late for a class.
Do you offer a daily class after school?
Yes! Our after school program is called Art Adventures and meets every afternoon after public school hours. It does not meet on days the Bulloch County Public Schools are closed. For more information about Art Adventures, including how to register, please click here.
Do you have classes for adults and seniors?
Absolutely – we offer full length classes meeting once weekly for eight weeks as well as one-day workshops suitable for all ages 14+.
Do you offer summer classes?
Yes! Each year during the Bulloch County Schools summer break, we offer a variety of weeklong camps for youth students of all ages and interests as well as several adult classes. Information about the year’s summer class offerings are typically posted here in April.
Do I need to be an experienced artist to take an Averitt Center class?
Certainly not! We offer classes for students at all levels of experience. The class’s description will let you know what level of skill is best suited. The Averitt Center is proud to help you begin your artistic journey!
